We felt that although the service here was very good, the food itself was average. I started out with the Keeshi Yena and not having it before, I wasn't sure what to compare it too, but it was ok. The french onion soup seemed to be lacking in flavor. For my main entree, my filet was undercooked and thus, throwing it back on the grill didn't help the already chewy texture of it. This was probably my worst filet I had on the island. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake. I've had better elsewhere. I will say that their bread basket was one of the better ones I've had on the island as the rolls were served hot and there were a variety of breads offered. Overall, not a place I would recommend.

Mon 09/19 – French Steakhouse
We started off to go to Bugaloe as we really enjoyed their fish dishes on 09/12, but as we were walking through the Radisson to get to Bugaloes we were getting bitten by mosquitos all over. So, we decided eating outdoors with very little breeze was not a good idea. Plan “B” was to go to the French Steakhouse. We try to fit in French Steakhouse every visit, but sometimes we don’t as we like to try new places. We both enjoyed our dinners – DW had a Caribbean Shrimp dish and I had the Escargot for appetizer and the Filet Mignon as the entrée. Drinks were very good and we enjoyed a bottle of Pinot Noir with dinner. Service was excellent and they had a very good piano player for entertainment.

We have stayed at the Manchebo on our last 3 trips and eaten at the French Steakhouse. Food has always been excellent and this time was no different. We both had the grouper which came with a salad. Enjoyed it very much. Had the apple strudel for desert and it was excellent.

After reading great reviews in Frommers, Fodors and local guides, we made reservations well in advance to our trip to Aruba. Arriving early at 5:30, we were spoiled by the attentive staff. The food was delicious, well prepared and matched my expectations for such a highly regarded place.
The best thing, however, was the ambiance of the beautiful Manchebo Hotel. Before dinner we walked along the beach and made appointments at the amazing spa. After dinner we had drinks at the bar on the beach and watched yoga lessons in the outdoor pavilion.
We had an amazing time on our first trip to Aruba. In the future we look to making the Manchebo resort a part of it.

We stayed at the Manchebo Resort where this restaurant is located. We dined here 3 nights as it was part of the all-inclusive dining plan at Manchebo. We enjoyed The French Steakhouse and that it was an order off the menu restaurant instead of a buffet like most all-inclusive plans. The entries and appetizers were very good, but the service was very slow and unattentive. I don't know if this is because we were on the dining plan or not. It was hard to get noticed, to get a drink or get the check and once the meal was served. We will definitely be visiting Aruba and staying at the Manchebo again and we do hope service does improve because we plan on eating at the steakhouse as we enjoyed the food.

We have averaged two evenings per year for ten years and have never had less than an outstanding meal. The earlybird special used to be the bargain of the island. It is now nothing special and quantities are smaller (as are other places) but the quality is still there. Once my wife learned to carry a wrap, the environment is as good as it gets. This year we had six of us, and all agreed. Service was off slightly, but they were very busy.

My friends and dined at the French Steakhouse one night as guests at the resort this past January 2011. The waiter for our table was very nice and very accommodating. The food was JUST the way we ordered it, which is important when you are trying to eat healthy and also because I was ordering for two people who did not speak English well. So, the fact that we all got it right was great! We LOVED our entrees, I had the fish. A special nod to the chef for the beautifully presented steamed veggies and oh that delicious baked tomato! How do you do that!? The wine list was just fine with reasonably priced choices. We had no complaints. It was a relaxing and pleasant meal. We did not eat there more than once because we were not all inclusive and wanted to try other places. The only suggestion I would make is the name of the restaurant. I think it needs to be a little more exciting!

After reading different review's (some very good some very bad)  about this restaurant me and my wife decided to
give the french steakhouse a try since it was our second visit to Aruba in the low -rise and we never tried one of the restaurants of Manchebo.
When we arrived we were welcomed by an old friendly waiter who asked us where we wanted to sit and what we would like to drink.
It surprised me how well this man explained us which cocktail we should have before starting our meal. I ordered the fried shrimps and my wife took a kind of veggie tower since she is vegetarian. the appetizers where both very delightful. As main course I choose a T-bone steak and my wife got a  vegetarian pasta specially made by the chef himself. Also this time the food was excellent the steak that I ordered rare was juicy and the and the sauce was brilliant. The specially prepared pasta was also very tasteful according to my wife. We where again pleasant surprised because a lot of restaurant don't take a lot of care and time for there vegetarian customers. We both finished the evening German style with the home made Apfelstrudel with ice cream. Again beautiful presented and damm tasty it reminded me of old times warm crispy apple-pie absolutely delicious . As you can read we where very satisfied with the food the service and the old fashion atmosphere. Tomorrow we going to try the Italian restaurant even when we think it can not match the french steakhouse.

We used to make the trip to French steakhouse our first dinner of the season. But recently we found that the staff was getting less friendly. And O-la-la disappeared. Piano is a nice touch. There is actually one obnoxious older waiter; last year we lost a key from our room, called from a hotel and asked to check near the table we were sitting at - he responded " come and check yourself". We got a cab, came and of course the key was on the floor by the table. Not a nice attitude. This year he also was rude to my daugter (? vendetta). The food is o'k, but nothing special. We are not coming back.

Based on 2 recommendations - a friend and local cab driver we decided to try this place and were very disappointed. Service was horrible as was my wife's meal - a sampler of steak, chicken, and crab cakes. My steak was average at best. After being served our apps we were virtually ignored. Our second glass of wine arrived with two bites left of our meals. We passed on desert after our miserable experience. No one ever asked how our meals were !!!

My husband and I heard about a very
classic old restaurant named the
French Steakhouse. We decided to
give it a try because we are both meat lovers. When we arrived we were immediately welcomed by the hostess and we were seated at the window. The piano was played by a friendly man who even took the time to talk to us and ask us which music we like.
The live music was really wonderful. The food was absolutely amazing. We both started with the escargots snails
and took the Churasco steak as main course. My husband decided to finish with the home made apfelstrudel this was so big that we ended up eating it together. I really enjoyed my evening and I definitely come back next year and I certainly recommend this to anyone who wants a wonderful evening out.

Thank you very much for this lovely experience

My husband and I heard good reviews for this restaurant so we were looking forward to our dinner there.
When we first got there we were seated rather quickly but it took forever for the waiter to come over and take our order. It took at least 30 minutes for our appetizers to come out and then another at least 40 minutes for our entrees to come out. During this whole time our waiter never once came to our table to check on us. Apparently there was a problem in the kitchen but he never gave us an explanation for the delay. It would have been nice for him to come over and maybe offer more bread, tell us what the deal was, make a joke, anything would have been better then the way he handled things.
By the end of the meal I just wanted to leave but my husband wanted to have dessert, at that point the hostess came over and apologized for the delay and offered us dessert on the house. She personally went into the kitchen and made sure it came out quickly. We thought that was very nice of her.
We will NEVER go back to this restaurant.

The meat was done to our satisfaction...the presentation was a 9/10. The service was absolutely horrible. After waiting at the door and being told we did not have a reservation (which we did and had to point out our own name)...we were promptly forgotten about. We had to ask for rolls when we saw that other diners, who came after us had gotten theirs. I guess that asking for the bread must have irritated our waiter because he never really came back. We had a long wait for the check. No one bothered to fill our water glasses. Would I go there again...probably not. Don\\\'t bother with the French Onion soup...ours really had no taste...seemed watered down. Tulips has the best on the island (in my humble opinion). When paying $80.00+ for 2 meals I expect (at least)a little service. I can get quality food at a more reasonable price...with outstanding service at many other restaurants on the island. I asked to speak to someone in charge...no one ever came. As we were leaving...someone said: \"that\'s not unusual...food is good...service is poor\".
