Madame Janette
Ramon Helgers and Karsten Gesing founded Madame Janette April 2nd
1999. Their collaboration resulted into a place, which offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere.

Ramon is responsible for the exotic fruits, herbs and vegetables you will find in not only our dishes, but also in most supermarkets on Aruba. Karsten, a European Master Chef, trained in 'old school' traditions creates, with help from his knowledgeable international
staff, tasteful and creative dishes. Their combined worldwide experience
gives their dishes an original flavour with a touch of Caribbean in it. We call it the Madame Janette Experience! We hope that you will have a wonderful dining romance.

We eat here every time we come to Aruba. This year we saved it for our last meal and went with friends who have never been before.

The dinner was very good, but it has been better in previous years.

The men started with the sashimi appetizer which was huge and a definite value for the money. My friend started with the mushroom appetizer which she liked a lot and I had the lobster ravioli which was good. For main coursed, I had the almond gruper which was very good and huge (I took 1/2 home with me), my friends had the lamb and a steak and my husband had another fish dish. Everyone really enjoyed the meals.

While we were eating dinner there was live music being played which was very enjoyable.

The menu has changed, but it was still very good and our service was also very good.

I would definitely still go back here again and would recommend it to anyone going to Aruba.

We stay in Aruba for 1 month every year & have dined at Madame Janettes one or two times a week for the past 7 years. This year we were very very disappointed. The service was poor, our waitress was terrible, one night we had reservations for 8:30 and they had us for 6:00, and several items that we liked from years past were no longer on the menu. They will still make these dishes for you but they do not taste the same. We will probably bypass Madame Janettes next year sorry to say. There are other better resturants.

Have had a couple of good meals in the past at Madame Janette's(MJ's) but this meal was the worst meal that I have had anywhere in the past 15 years. I was stunned!
The four of us have been to Aruba numerous times but this was the first time at MJ's for our friends and we did build it up as one of the best Restaurants on the Island. (Reservation: Jan 8, 2007 at 9:00 PM)
The waitress was abrupt and bitchy as she welcomed(?)us without telling us her name. (She did tell us she was 27 and had two sisters and a brother and was Dutch). We did place our orders and the meals did come out with a longer than usual wait but it is always busy at MJ's. The other three folks said their meals were just OK (Steak & two fish dishes)but nothing to write home about, which was disappointing after the build-up. I ordered the Cordon Bleu, which is my favorite dish. I will always order it if it is on the menu either in the States or in Europe. This Cordon Bleu was not editable. No joke! It looked as if it were a cross between a giant burnt baked potato and a "turd". The waitress came by the table as the food was being placed on the table, asked how it was and left. She never looked at us or waited for an answer. Not one of us had a chance to even look at our meal, let alone cut into it. As she was running from the table I assessed my meal and tried to call her back to the table. To late she was gone. Fifteen minutes went by before a manager on the floor came by and he asked us about our meals. He stopped talking when he spotted mine. He quickly apologized and said it should never have left the kitchen and could not believe it had been served. This was before I said a word. He said he would have a fresh meal out right away. Ten minutes passed and our 27 year old Dutch waitress returned and asked where my plate was. I gave her a quick explanation and she disappeared again. Two minutes later she returned to tell me it will be a while because there were other meals in front of mine being prepared in the kitchen. At this point the other three had finished their meals and we decided to bypass my meal and desert since it was now 11:40 PM. I asked for the check without the Cordon Blue on the bill and the server started to discuss having us wait for my meal or at least wait for it so I could take it home with me. I finally had to tell her again to bring the bill now and don't think of charging me for the meal or try to have me take it with me for the full price of the meal. She said "OK but first, let me ask you a question, outside of the one meal HOW WERE THE REST OF THE MEALS, THE SERVICE, and your overall dining experience?"
The other three answered for me in unison. I then told her that we had asked her for rolls twice and she never brought them and the only consistent service was from the man who refilled the water glasses and the lady who brought us our wine and drinks.
MJ's is all about their kitchen but I am sure the Chef(s) had been kidnapped that night and replaced with Hans & Frans who had never seen a restaurant kitchen that turned out more than burgers & fries. A side note: another table across from us that had the same waitress was encountering some of the same problems with service that we endured.
We never did see the manager again. I am sure that the Chef's Hans and Frans had him in the deep fryer for coming into their kitchen to complain about a meal.
My advice, skip Madame Janette's and save your money for a restaurant with more consistent service and food and there are many in Aruba.

Aruba is fortunate to have a landmark such as Madame Janette. From the entranceway all the way to the dining area, the ambience is terrific. The service impeccable. The entertainment most enjoyable. The food marvelous! We have dined at least twice every vacation in Aruba for the last five years and have never been disappointed. Our grandchildren (ages 7 and 9) literally begged to return to MJ's for dinner. We feel at home there!! Simply WONDERFUL!!

For our first trip to Aruba, I did alot of research beforehand. I emailed 4 restaurants for reservations and Madame Janette's is the only one that responded. We arrived to find beautiful al fresco dining, wonderful service and food beyond compare. The seafood entrees we sampled were almond grouper and swordfish. You will not be disappointed here. If you can only go to one nice restaurant in Aruba, make sure it is Madame Janette's.
