Madame Janette
Ramon Helgers and Karsten Gesing founded Madame Janette April 2nd
1999. Their collaboration resulted into a place, which offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere.

Ramon is responsible for the exotic fruits, herbs and vegetables you will find in not only our dishes, but also in most supermarkets on Aruba. Karsten, a European Master Chef, trained in 'old school' traditions creates, with help from his knowledgeable international
staff, tasteful and creative dishes. Their combined worldwide experience
gives their dishes an original flavour with a touch of Caribbean in it. We call it the Madame Janette Experience! We hope that you will have a wonderful dining romance.

We just returned and had 2 incredible meals there....almond grouper was to die for, great Mahi Mahi, then we both returned for Surf and Turf. Caeser salad was huge, best to split it and a very tasty dressing (got it on the side to watch the portion, just used half for 2 of us, was plenty). Had chocolate mousse one night and apple streudel the other. Both very good and big enough to split.
The entertainment is always nice, listened to the guitar playing lawyer singer and a woman vocalist one night, they never took a break. The other night, there was a duo...2 young men with guitars and vocals, also very nice.
The atmosphere is very romantic, a garden with twinkling white lights.
It is our favorite restaurant in Aruba.

Lucky for us, this restaurant opened up after a 3 week vacation just before we left Aruba. The place was packed as people eagerly awaited its return. There was a 3 person acoustic group playing while we were dining which enhance the great outdoor atmosphere. While the restaurant was bigger than I expected, they had several trees and other flowers and greenery that provide privacy from table to table. I started with a ceaser salad which had actual shaved parmesan(salads here are huge so don't fill up on salad). My entree was the filet, butterflied with lobster and a holandaise sauce (I think they called it Filet Versace). If I can only have one more meal the rest of life, this might be it. The filet was tender and juicy, the lobster was cooked to perfection and the sauce was good and did not overwhelm the flavor of either. My wife had the filet and requested bernaise sauce with it. The filet was a little underdone for her, but it was taken care of promptly. It was so good, she didn't even touch the sauce. We should have known better than order ice cream for desert being in Aruba as it was almost melted by the time we got it, but live and learn. Madam Jenette has certainly earned its top ranking in Aruba. Do not miss this restaurant.

I might also add that in finer Aruban restaurants, red wine is actually served at the proper temperature (around 62-67 degrees for most red wines with some exceptions) which enhances the flavor and finish. This was an added benefit to our overal dining experience in Aruba. To experiment at home, you can put a bottle of red in the fridge (not your $500 Bordeaux!!!) for about 30 min (+/- 5 minutes) to get from 73 to 67 degrees. One day we pray that US restaurants will catch on.

We have been going to Aruba for a week every July for the past 13 years and have eaten at most of the restaurants. Madame Janette's is definitely at the top of our "don't miss" list each year and we always recommend it to people we meet. Last year I tried the almond encrusted grouper, and I have to say it was the best dish I have ever eaten in Aruba or anywhere!! And since I'm not much of a fish eater, that is REALLY saying something! The service is excellent, atmosphere is fantastic...I think this year we may have to go there twice!

I heard it was good but I didn't think it was that good!! Everyone needs to experience this place. I'm so glad that I saved the best place to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday at! And the birthday dessert...it was to die for!!

Just had dinner at MJ and enjoyed the annual White Asparagus Festival for
the fifth time now. The only thing I can say is, it is to die for!

Our group of six enjoyed one of the best dinners we had (and everybody
agreed) in our entire life. The whole special menu was created around white
Asparagus and it was a culinary Extravaganza! For us and many friends of ours Madame Janette is one of the best restaurants we ever were fortunate to had dinner at. No wonder the place is always packed like hell, I highly
recommend to make reservations, especially for the garden area.
