CLASSIC BLUNDER

Reports of the potential demise or change of this restaurant come as no surprise. It was inevitable given the decision to move several years ago to their current location in a difficult to find area that required descending a rather steep set of stairs to get to and was totally not handicap friendly. The area was also frequented by mosquitoes which made dining an unpleasant experience there. As time wore on service and food quality varied with the wind. Though it was possible to still get a good meal here and have an enjoyable experience, there was no guarantee, on any given day, that such would be the case and the odds of it happening were continuously declining. Where BAREFOOT has made a very successful go of being in the former location of MARANDI, Marandi somehow did not see or realize the full potential of the former area and suffered accordingly. Whether the move was motivated by some economics or greed is really irrelevant - the move was a bad decision and the place is paying the price for that. So let us ask - if Marandi is essentially closing because of the poor location, what makes anyone think that a concept like "Arubaville" will succeed there especially since the place will continue to be buggy and access may continue to be treacherous and other water park venues in Aruba (other than beaches) have not done well! Our assessment of the situation is to quote the famous modified line of the Wizard of Oz - which is to say "ding dong Marandi is about to be dead!" to which we sadly add: May it Rest in Peace! Understand that Marandi brought with it a plethora of culinary talent to Aruba, much of which has moved on to other establishments, and its demise or transformation is more of a shock wave to the entire industry than one can outwardly realize. It may be unfortunate but the culinary scene of Aruba is changing and for there to be no place for a place like Marandi is telling. Though Marandi may be going, its legacy will linger on for many years to come. We, unfortunately, will not be amongst those who will miss it - they were too slow to react to their blunder and we gave up on them about three years ago (though we gave it one last shot this year - and were disappointed that we did).

Best choice

We went to Marandi with mixed expectations as we were aware that ownership/management had changed since our last visit. We were not disappointed in any way- excellent menu, very attentive staff and a great setting. Should be a must for everyone.

beautiful view very pricey

This was our first visit to Marandi and we decided to visit because of the fantastic reviews. The view is gorgeous. Fish jumping, watching the sunset, boats drifting by, just spectacular. The staff are very friendly. it was a little slow to get our food however with the view, we didn't mind. What we were surprised was that our main dish did not come with a side dish of potatoes, rice, etc. For the price over $40 for lamb it should have been accompanied by something. My wife had the tenderloin, which she said was excellent, but again, no starch came with the meal which it could have used. As much as we enjoyed the ambiance, 2 entrees, 5 drinks and 2 desserts was $150 which didn't include the tip. there are so many other great restaurants that I don't think we will be back unfortunatley

FABULOUS!

We have been visiting Aruba for 15 years and each year try a new restaurant . . . this year it was Marandi and we loved it! Our wonderful server, Nasek, did everything she could to clarify the menu, types of fish being offered that night and the drink of the night. The scenic location and decor were very romantic. We thoroughly enjoyed our fish dishes and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes seafood and romance! We'll be back!!!

Even better

Learned the chef left and opened Barefoot (also great). New chef is marvelous...best fish I ever had (triple tail) done in different ways for each of us. Even the fresh baked bread is wonderful...goat cheese so fresh you'll swear the goat is behind the kitchen with the fisherman catching your dinner. Not to be missed...don't forget the stunning view of the sunset and the excellent service we received!!

Most highly recommended!

Went to Marandi on January 17, 2014 and from beginning to end, the experience was superb. The staff was enormously warm and friendly, the food excellent with wonderful bread and appetizers and fantastic desserts. Mine, a lemoncello ice cream with meringue garnishes, was memorable. The setting is perfect for sunset watching, and the restaurant itself is charming. Would definitely return!

food doesn't live up to beautiful venue

I have been coming to Marandi's on and off for probably ten years. We started coming to Mirandi's when it was located in its old location (current location of Barefoot Restaurant). We have always loved Mirandi's but sadly, it has become an "off the list" restaurant.
A little history... once the chef and host of Mirandi's left and opened up Barefoot (which we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE)it has struggled, imo. We went to Mirandi's after Barefoot opened but then didn't come back for a few years as the new menu was a little to exotic for our tastes. Then another update to the menu and not so many "exotic" dishes but found the food average. Too many good places to only get average food. Gave the restaurant my feedback and didn't go back again for a few years.
This year we decided to give it another try as we really love the atmosphere and were really hoping for the "new" menu to be great.
Well, sadly, food is again only average. I had for my main meal shrimp and with pineapple and coconut curie sauce. The meal was mediocre and the bowl only had shrimp and pineapple! NO rice, potato...NOTHING!! All for $30 too! There were 4 of us who had this and all said the same thing.
Part of the restaurant is open and the other part has a nice large palapas. I can say that the sections that was open to the sky was nice (although I understand if it rains this is an issue) but the area now has white ugly tent style covers. Atmosphere not as nice to add to the average food.

Simply awesome

First visit to Marandi and we'll be back. The food was amazing. Very tasty and well priced. Staff greeted us right away when we arrived. Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is great. Marandi is Right on the water. You can watch the fish swim and jump as you eat. The sunset was gorgeous and it was great to watch the cruise ships head out to sea all light up. Kids menu is a little light (only 3 items) but the kids are treated well.
Only dislike is it is a $25 cab fare each way from high rise hotels. But well worth it once you get there.

First visit, now a must visit

We have been going to Aruba for years now. We have our favorites and are always looking to add to that list. Our first visit to Marandi and we knew that we would always be back. From the fresh squeezed Orange juice in our cocktails to the Chocalate Lovers dessert, it was wonderful. The food is superb and the Pumpkin soup is not to be missed. Service was excellent, Laura was efficient and friendly. Rack of Lamb was tender and flavorful. The waterfront setting was very romantic overlooking the fish swimming in the clear waters below. Spray "Off!" or some type of bug spray for your legs under the table, but this is common for outdoor restaurants in Aruba.

My husband and I had a wonderful surprise menu dinner last night. The amuses were delightful, wine and food pairing excellent and we loved the duck breast as well as the amazingly light and flavourful desert. Definitely a recommendation for a super romantic dinner. Make sure you have driving directions to get there (and back!).

Best meal on the island ever!

We are very frequent visitors to the island, two times a year, and after an unpleasant experience at this restaurant several years ago (they said our reservation was cancelled), we decided to give it another try. We are very glad we did! I don't know where to begin. We were warmly greeted and were shown to a lovely table for two; we chose the Marandi app of foie gras and German bacon salad to share that was the beginning of our most delicious meal ever! Next we shared the pumpkin soup, my favorite part of the meal. I wish I had ordered my own. The main course was tuna and shrimp cooked to perfection with a wonderful sauce served with a mixture of fresh asparagus, zucchini, and tomatoes! No room left for dessert after devouring the generous portion.

Great Advice

Marandi was recommended by a cab driver we have been using for the past 10 years. Always stuck to our favorites until he suggested "you must try Marandi." Tried for the first time Sunday, November 3. Could not have had a better experience anywhere on Aruba. From the
reception, to immediate service with drinks, specials and
contined attentive staff made this evening one of the best
we have enjoyed during our annual return to Aruba. The food from appetizer thru entree was superbly prepared and delicious. Ambience and restaurant setting is a plus!!!

Just as good two years later

Two years ago we were thoroughly impressed with the setting and food at Marandi. We actually thought we should not return as it just couldn't meet that memory, well it did! By the way, there are signs making it easy to find that I don't think existed in the past. At any rate, the place is a beautiful setting over the water. The table setting is lovely, the waitress, Laura, was terrific, the drinks well made and the food just as terrific. We all had either fish or shellfish for the entree. Our choice was made easy after Laura gave an accurate description of the fish of the day, an import from Panama, tri tail. When the huge shrimp came out with their heads on, she was quick to offer having the heads removed in the kitchen. A foi gras appetizer was also well received. In short this place is a perfect combination of Aruban friendliness and a real effort at perfection in preparation and setting.

Absolutely delicious! Highly recommended

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday, and we absolutely loved it! The setting was gorgeous, being close the water, and watching the sunset. It’s a really romantic spot, and dining around 6:30-7:00pm is the perfect time. It was quite far from our hotel in the low rise area. We paid about $50 in total for the cab fare. At the end of the night we both thought it was well worth it though. The food was amazing! I would say it’s comparable to the fine dining restaurants in New York. From the bread to begin the meal to dessert, everything was delicious. My boyfriend could not stop comparing it to the restaurant in our hotel (which fell way below expectations). Our server was also very friendly and helpful in describing the menu. Marandi was definitely the best meal we had in Aruba during our five nights there. We would definitely visit again if we return to the island. This was a meal that kept us wanting to return. I highly recommend this restaurant.
