Henri Charrière, one of the world's most famous prisoners, would surely have had the time of his life at Papillon Restaurant in The Village, across from the Radisson Resort. Nicknamed Papillon because of the butterfly tattoo on his chest, the Frenchman was the first convict to escape from Devil's Island, something that nobody had ever done before. Charrière's thrilling, gripping autobiography has been the concept behind Papillon Restaurant.
Papillon Restaurant's menu reflects the Frenchman's arduous journey to freedom: classic French dishes have been dusted with daring Caribbean flair and are a culinary journey for your taste buds. Papillon is open daily for dinner.

Best Dinner and Service 25April 2012

Dining at Papillon was one our best experiences in Aruba. We chose to eat inside near the bar where it was very cozy and the music was delightful. The escargot en croute was perfect with a light, flaky crust over a bowl of tender and very plentiful snails simmered in a mouth-watering broth with a touch of Pernod (and not salty, which is always my complaint). The crab cakes were also wonderful, but the very best was the pear tarte tartin (recommended by our fabulous waiter Maurice) and the fresh blueberry martini (which followed a perfect crisp white wine (also recommended). Can't wait to return.

Love it!

Been to many restaurants on Aruba but my experience this restaurant is by far the best on the island.
So many restaurant but all the menu's look the same.
And so do the winelists
But papillon is different
And the chef is really the best, the staff really know what the talk about and everybody knows what service and fine dining stands for.
Tina and staff, thanks!
Ps: make sure you take the banana cheesecake as desert, it is greaaat!

We visited Papillion on our last night of our visit, wished we had come sooner. Everyone was extremely friendly and the food was terrific. We went for the early bird special and had the 3 course meal, highly recommend it.

Four old friends visited Papillon on March 24, 2012. We were pre-advised to select a table inside, due to two competing noisy music clubs outside. We were greeted warmly and ushered inside to a charmingly intimate atmosphere, evocative of how I picture Paris in the 1920s to have been, complete with soft flattering lighting and muted torch songs. Peter, our waiter could not have been more accommodating. Three of us ordered the escargot- a favorite dish--and after this offering, I never have to eat escargots again (except from this chef!). They came in a garlic-butter sauce in ceramic cups covered with the most divine pastry, delicately and expertly seasoned and browned to perfection. The presentation and taste of our entrees was perfection, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. I will save their description for another time, as I skip to the desert: all four of us had the creme brulee. It was served on an interesting ceramic plate, and was done in the classic style, with the presentation deserving of 5 stars. One off note: on the plate with the creme brulee was a scoop of handmade sorbet, tasty on its' own, but the flavor, passionfruit, I think, contrasted with the sweetness of the creme brulee. This restaurant and its' chef richly deserve much praise!

We visited Papillon Restaurant on March 29th. It was very good. Papillon was my husband's favorite meal. He ordered the Sea bass and the presentation was awesome. The Sea Bass was in a bowl that looked like a pot pie. It was a little too fishy for me and the crust of the pie was too salty. However, my husband loved it. I had the risotto cakes and they were very good. Papillon is a little pricey for the amount of food, but the food is very good. The molten lava cake is worth the wait! So good. The atmosphere and theme of the restaurant is very cool. Most of the seating is outside, as the restuarant is small inside. Our waiter was okay. He was very difficult to understand and seemed to be frustrated that he had to repeat what he was saying. My husband and I are 35, so we are not hard of hearing. The hostess was very friendly. We had reservations for 7, but for some reason, she had 8:30, even though I confirmed the reservations earlier in the day. She was very accomodating and we were able to be seated at 7. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will definitely return.

THE WAITER WAS EXCELLENT AND SUGGESTED A WINE A FEW DOLLARS MORE EXPENSIVE TO US. USUALLY WE GET THE LESS EXPENSIVE WINE BUT THE SUGGESTED WINE WAS DELICIOUS.

THE FOOD WAS NOT ONLY DELICIOUS BUT THE EXACT PROPOTION.

EXCELLENT RESTARAUNT

One of our favourite restaurants on the Island. Great food, service and a feeling that you are never going to be rushed is what really stood out with this restaurant. This restaurant has a great series of gift stands near it and a couple of other restaurants, but you would NEVER know that they were even there, the way the restaurant is set up as there is a certain privacy area that allows you to enjoy everything this restaurant has to offer. This establishment is an alsolute MUST if you enjoy fine food with a terrific staff

We returned to PAPILLON this year and were delighted to find that its performance was consistent with what we experienced last year. The food and service are excellent here even though the setting and atmosphere do detract from the total enjoyment. It is shame that such a good restaurant has such a bad setting and theme to it - all we can say is ignore both of those aspects and you will have an incredibly enjoyable meal - the food makes up for any other possibly perceived deficiencies. And, when it realy comes down to things, it is the food that it is all about. GO and ENJOY.

A friend invited me for an elegant evening out at Papillon Restaurant. And what a night it was! We started off with a goat cheese salad to die for, followed by an entrecote that was one of the best I have ever tasted. The bottle of Saint Emilion Grand Cru was excellent and the service nice and discreet. Our night out at Papillon was a super experience, hopefully soon to be repeated.

I finally found the time to thank Tina & Kumar for a wonderful evening. We try to come very time we are on the island, but I have to say that they have managed to exceed our expectations!! First I was afraid that bringing the children would hold us back from having a spectacular culinar evening, but nothing was less true. With just the right attention and tasty recommendations, it has made our night a success for the whole family.

There are many words one could use to describe this restaurant. I am just going to say, “WOW”. There were four of us who dined together. Three had dived that day and the other had walked two miles. Everyone was starving and what a memorable delectable meal it was. Our party ate “soup to nuts” and the service was very nicely spaced out so that we did not feel rushed.

Some of the dishes which stood out were: Dijon mustard soup, Tuna Trio, Chèvre salad, Grouper Papillon, Canard à Passion- Crispy, seared duck, and the Mousse Tasting.

During our 2 weeks stay on Aruba we ate at 7 toprestaurants of which Papillon was the last, but certainly not the least. We ordered the game-menu and different wines for each course. We told the staff we were not in a hurry, and so it happened. From the amuses to the desert every course was a feast on itself: the taste, the "cuisson", the choice of matching ingredients and the excellent wines: super! Compliments to Tina and her staff and of course to Bas, the chef. We hope to visit Papillon again in april 2012.
