MATHILDE'S has long been a must-do every year we visit ARUBA and it has never failed to satisfy. HOWEVER, this year we saw a little chink in their armor. Food contiued to be excellent and the setting and ambiance were great (shame on ERIC for suggesting any change - it is an historical house - leave it alone - it is what it is - enjoy it). HOWEVER, service was not as impeccable as it usually is. The evening was a busy one and we would like to chalk it up to a "bad night" which every place has now and then and we will be returning next year to see if that was the case. In the meantime, we still regard MATHILDE'S as one of the better reaturants in ARUBA and will continue to do so unless given compelling reason to think otherwise. GO - enjoy.

Though the service and staff were very attentive, and the food was GOOd, but not great.... we were charged 15.oo a glass for the house wine... and the special of Dover Sole was priced at 75.00! Expensive for not so great!

For just the food alone, Chez Matilde is an outstanding place. The attention to detail and customer service as top notch. The servers were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The crab cappuccino was very nice, the grouper was the best meal my wife and I had all week, the ostrich was very hearty, and the chocolate souffle was a perfect ending the meal.
The decor is a little too vibrant and 80s at times but then mixed with old photos of sailors and ships. It felt like an odd mish-mash of items. A fix-up to some cleaner decor would make this an amazing place.

This is our third trip to the Renaissance and we have walked by Matilde repeatedly without seeing it. Sent in on Election night and have been singing its praise ever since. My wife had the lamb and I had the Beef with a wonderful sauce cooked tableside. The Chocolate Souffle was superb! Bring your wallet, but it is worth every dollar/florin. It is the class act of every place we have visited in Aruba. Must go.

Matilde is downtown and attempts to be very upscale in food and service. I think that in trying to be top level in service they fell short.
Something simple like delivering butter and rolls to the table was done without identifying the flavor of the butters.
I complimentary taste of soup was also delivered without comment. Thankfully we asked as it turns out to be Pistachio which some people could be alergic to.
In general the food was excellent so I'd recomend it highly in this area.
I'd also suggest they fix the water damaged wall, not something I'd expect in a fine restaurant.

My wife and I found this restaurant by accident while looking for another restaurant. When we asked for directions to the other restaurant they were so gracious that we decided to stay. Wow, am I glad we did! We had a wonderful dinner.
The only negative was quickly and professionally remedied. The bread was over baked and too crusty. When I mentioned that to our server the bread was taken away and a few minutes later warm, freshly baked bread was served to us.
In a word, our dinner was magnifique! We highly recommend it and look forward to another dinner there on our next trip to Aruba.

I have dined in Mathilde for many years beginning when it was in the one of the oldest houses in Aruba. It never failed to be a wonderful dining experience. However, this last meal was extraordinarily overpriced, not as well prepared and the floor maitre de. I will have to say that I will not visit this restaurant on my next visit to Aruba and can't recommend it any more.

We have been dining at Matilda's since 1995. Their recent renovation is outstanding, bring a freshness to this landmark establishment. The attentiveness of the staff, the chef and the somelliere Kumar combine to create a fantastic evening. You cannot come to Aruba without dining at Matilda's.

on our third visit to the island we found Matilde, and how glad we were that we did!
The minute you are escorted from the taxi you know you are going to be well looked after and have a wonderful evening in this delightful restaurant.
The staff are all welcoming and the menu is the best we have sampled on the island. You are giving time to decide from the beautiful dishes and helped to make the right wine selection to complement your meal choice. The quality of the ingredients used is a high standard and presesnted in a artistic manner. We have saved our last night in Aruba to spend at Matilde as it is a magical experience. one our next visit to Aruba, it will be the first place we return to. Thank you for making our time here special!
