WHAT A SHAME to hear that RUMBAS has closed. It was as fine an establishment as any and was not as precocious as so many others. It was simple and homey with some of the best service on the Island and some of the most attentive staff around. Food was very good and the prices were quite reasonable. The recent transition of ownership did little to impact on the quality that could be partaken of here. It most likely succumbed to the garish and trendy restaurants that seem to be popping up and have some flighting appeal for the moment - that is too bad and the closing of RUMBAS is a true loss for the culinary environment of ARUBA and the downtown restaurant scene. RUMBAS will be fondly remembered and missed by many.

We ate at Rumba ~5 times during our trip to Aruba.. 4 times for breakfast (almost every morning after we discovered it), and we decided to try it one night for dinner as well.

Rumba really is one of those rare gems that you find. We felt bad b/c it was rarely crowded. Its underneath Casa Tua, and it was our impressions many potential patrons don't realize its not the same place, and their signage really doesn't make it obvious (apparently Casa Tua is also the landlord of the building, so it could be that they can't put up more signage). And while that meant we could always get a table. we really hope Rumba succeeds and is still there when we return to Aruba (hopefully in a year or two).

As I said, we first discovered Rumba as a breakfast location. They have *fantastic* omelets (often we skipped lunch b/c they were so filling).. I think the Gouda is part of the secret.

We'd pre booked most of our nights with reservations in the more widely known restaurants, but had an open night so we tried Rumba for dinner (after so many good breakfasts). We usually ate breakfast inside, but sat outside for dinner and had a nice breeze the whole time.

For dinner, we mostly ordered the daily specials. This included a "seafood sauce" accompanying the main courses.

One of the few places that did not add in the automatic/annoying 15% (in which case I felt more than happy to tip well above 15%)

Both breakfast and dinner were good bargains compared to alternatives (and we ate of most of the "Top 10" recommendations)

We've been to this restaurant 2 yrs. in a row. 3X during our last 10 day vacation. Can not say enough how wonderful it is. Customer service on the island I thought is going down hill but not at Rumba. Food, service, atmosphere excellent. We did a food and wine paring this time. Loved it! Brought our 9 yr old too. They even brought her out a special dessert so she wouldn't feel left out.
Children's menu is awesome. Homemade chicken nuggets that melts in your mouth. Our last day ,we had a flight at 1pm they were still serving breakfast not quite ready for lunch yet but the waitress recognized us and they served us lunch so we could make our flight home w/ a full belly.

Dont get me wrong, this wasnt the fanciest place around... however, we like to think of it as a diamond in the rough, because thats what it ended up being. We were walking around downtown looking for a place to eat... something different. We stumbled upon Rumba and were immediately attracted to it because of the name... and the popular song at the moment called Roomba... Anyway, the service was awesome, because our waiter was really good. I mean REALLY good. He knew everything about the menu, and was very personable. We had a Greek Salad Appetizer which was very fresh and tasty. I dont eat fish, but I decided to try the seafood sampler special with Mahi Mahi, Grouper, and Shrimp... I never had Mahi Mahi OR even heard of grouper... but it was DELICIOUS!! My gf got the Carbonara Pasta which had a little carribbean flair and was VERY good... We didnt have room for dessert, and actually had leftovers... which the waiter wrapped up into the shape of a duck... and Im not easily impressed, but this thing looked so real... I tipped him 30% and told him how great everything was, and I would be back....

About 3 days later we were walking thru downtown and walked by Rumba on our way to another restuarant.. and our waiter came running outside to say hi, and asked how our stay was and made some small talk... I mean, seriously, they must meet 100's of people per week, but he remembered us.. our names, where we were from.. etc... Only in Aruba do you get that type of friendliness. Rumba is not to miss!!

Been coming to Aruba for 10 years. Been to Aruba's finest restaurants. Rumba's is a hidden jewel. It's downtown, small, not great on the air cond. BUT the food has it over everyone. The owner is the cook. We had filet mignon, grouper, rack of lamb, and was the best of the week. The chocolate mousse was "TO DIE FOR"
Portions were large..price very reasonable. No El Gaucho next year..No LG Smith but definatley Rumba

This was a great little delight we stumbled onto. We had the lunch specials and were greated by hospitable staff and a welcoming owner. This restaurant manages to take you off the hustle and bustle of downtown Aruba and into a quaint environment. Experienced my first Belashi here! A memorable experience for food, drink and making new friends in Aruba.
