Love this place!

We recommend Barney's to anyone looking for great food, large portions, at a reasonable price, in a nice atmosphere. Though it can be a bit noisy at times, it is well worth a visit or two. We love their nightly "all you can eat" menu, which to us just means a little break in price, since we can never eat more than our initial order. A must at least once or twice a week for us.

Barney’s Restaurant

We went on a Wednesday night, grouper night. It was the best grouper I have ever had in Aruba. The portions are very large; we had to wrap part of our meal. By the way, it tasted even better on the second day!
Excellent service.

Snails in a Boat

Feb 21, 2018 - posted by
We frequent Barney\'s every visit because we can\'t wait to start our meal with their snails in a boat. The are soooo delicious!! We have had most of the items on the menu and we have never been disappointed. It is a fun place to go to, and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, not overpriced restaurant in Aruba. Eline and Ron are very welcoming owner\'s.

Disappointed

Went for Schnitzel - which was advertised as 'falling off the plate'. Started with a dirty side plate and it got worse from there. Schnitzel was greasy, tough and unappetizing. The sate sauce had a film on the top and did not look fresh. My husband did not want me to complain as he's much nicer than me. Have been coming to Aruba for 15 years and used to live here and have eaten at many many restaurants with never a complaint. Will not go back or recommend Barney's

Like Smoking 2 Packs of Cigarettes & Loud Bar

Sep 30, 2017 - posted by
While we enjoyed the moderate prices, diverse menu and good food, we could not overcome the feeling that we had smoked two packs of cigarettes with our dinner.

Barney's is as much a dutch / American snowbird hangout as it is a restaurant that has fought off the trend to become non-smoking. Basically in the same room with bar stools about 1 meter away from the dining area, the "Locals" sit there getting plastered, hollering at each other like it a class reunion and smoking like a chimney as they recreate their Dutch version of the "Cheers" Bar.

With the long bar right in the middle of the dining room, this means that it is joke to say that the dining room is "non-smoking" as the smoke cloud from the bar spreads of the the entire room to make the dining experience far less enjoyable than it could be.

In summary, the rowdiness and cigarette smoke was too much for us to loose the enjoyment of what could have been a good meal at a fair price.

AYCE BBQ Babyback Ribs

Sep 11, 2016 - posted by
We had a very nice dinner at Barneys the other night and decided to try their Thursday AYCE BBQ ribs. The ribs come with cole slaw and fries. The portions were big but the ribs leave something to be desired. They were meaty but also quite fatty and could be smoked or charred or cooked longer. They bring out a half rack for the second round which we requested more charring (bark). They were just a little better but still fatty. We'll have to check out Smokey joes Tuesday AYCE ribs and let you know...

What's wrong with this picture??...We have been coming to Aruba many years and never ate at Barney's!! We always eat at Sole Mare and Barney's is literally just next door a few feet away! Last year we did walk in after dining at Sole Mare to inquire about their menu but did not eat there. Well, tonight we decided to give Barney's a try and realized what we've been missing out on all these years...unique delicious food at reasonable prices! Easy to make a reservation on their website. Elien (or is it Eline?) Scheele, one of the owners, replies quickly to confirm. Parking can be limited depending on which night but we had no problem on a Monday at 7PM. Eline greeted us and seated us at a nice table. Be aware...Barneys is "semi-open"...entrance doors left open because of inside bar which allows smoking (at bar). There was a young lady playing a guitar and singing. Barneys has an interesting and unique menu. Everything sounds yummy and you wish you could try it all. In the end, we decided on 2 appetizers, snails in a boat (escargots in mushroom caps) and deep fried mussels. Amy had grouper frajitas and I had the bacon cheeseburger soup (yes, you heard right) and the almond encrusted filet of grouper. For dessert, we had a round chocolate covered vanilla ice cream ball. Everything was delicious, albeit a little salty (except for dessert). Portions were generous, fresh, and reasonably priced. They have early bird and daily specials also (check their website) which we will return to try!

Another great meal

I live on the island part time and Barney's is kind of a go to place for us. The food is always very good, whether the nightly special or off the menu. The creme brule is a particularly tasty dessert. Ron's drink menu is quite large and he is a great mixer. Barney's is just a block east of the Wendy's stoplight on Palm Beach Road so it is an easy walk from the highrise hotels. It is family owned by Dutch Arubians so the place is clean and the staff very personable. Since it is not directly on the strip, prices are reasonable. It is a good place to have dinner.
