Loved it!

After reading all the great reviews, my husband and I ate here last week. Wow! What a hidden gem! Jose is a doll, and the whole staff is friendly and helpful! The Creole Sushi Roll appetizer is awesome (and I don't even eat sushi - it's not "really" sushi), the Gostoso cocktail is great, too. My husband got one of the specials, and I had grouper in mango sauce. Everything was just wonderful!! This will now be a regular dinner spot for us in Aruba!!

Best food AND Best Value

Dec 25, 2012 - posted by
We have been coming down to Aruba for 7 years now, and I have been researching different restaurants to go to on this site. I read the reviews of Gostoso, and after having dinner there for the very first time, I have to agree that this is the best find on the island!

Gostoso's is a small establishment with limited seating so you must call in advance to secure a table.

My family (of 5, youngest being 14) arrived and were sat down right away. From the start, we were greeted by warm smiles, and throughout the meal, the attention given to us was not overbearing, but was quite timely. Our water glasses never got empty.

The menu is diverse and offers something for everybody.

For appetizers, I had a stuffed artichoke that was unique and flavorful. My wife had soup which was delicious. My boys ordered their specialty... the Creole Sushi Rolls. Not sushi - sushi... but a Portuguese style sushi roll... no rice or seaweed, but filled with crab or salmon, and avocado, wrapped in thinly sliced plantain... with a sweet homemade sauce... DELICIOUS!!! Must order at least one for the table!!!

Dinner: Although their steak supposedly is terrific, we all were in the mood for fish, and BOY! what a treat. We each ordered the grouper and we either had it with a mango sauce or Madeira style... with passion fruit and a sliced banana that was warmed up laying on top. It is an absolute treat for your taste buds... Best on the island so far.

Dessert: Two words... Tres Leches. They have a bread/cake dessert soaked in three different types of milk and topped with merengue. Yummy. A homemade dark chocolate cake was good, and their caramel flan was okay.

At this point, you will be stuffed, as the portions are generous.

Throughout the process, they were very clear as to how much everything costs... except for the sangria. They made it sound wonderful, so I ordered it. They didn't say how much it would cost --> US$50 ! Ridiculous.

When I got the bill I was shocked. Great way to ruin what overall was a terrific experience. Everything else is very fairly priced... so ask before you order (Lesson Learned)

Again... whether you are looking for a "Fine" restaurant or just one of fair value... this one is as good as any!

A great Find

We have been coming to Aruba for 12 years and this is the first time we ate here. Boy have we missed out... The food was excellent, the spices unique and the staff was great. The owner/chef was very attentive to our needs and was very appreciative of our comments. A little off the beaten path but very easy to find and we'll worth it.

Consistency

This is probably our fourth year dining at Gostoso and we continue to go back because it's a great value and good food. My husband is especially fond of their homemade hot sauce. We've never had a bad meal and their alfredo sauce is excellent. Nice and light, nothing like the heavy sauce we have in NJ.

Gostoso is one of the best kept secrets in aruba. the food there is AMAZING!i had the grouper in mango sauce and it was amazing, it had such great flavor. my daughter had the grouper in a passion fruit sauce, topped with a banana, and finished the whole entire thing and said that she could eat a whole other one! my wife had the cabrito stoba, stewed goat and ate every piece. The dessert was AMAZING!the tres leches cake is absolutely to die for. we have this cake at home at a restaurant and this one was even more delicious and milky than the one at home. great find in aruba, a must to go to!

The owner, Jose, was absolutely charming and could not be prouder or more earnest to please his guests. The restaurant is small so definitely do make a reservation. Gostoso is on a small side street in downtown Oranjestad. If you are going to take a taxi anywhere on the island, this is the place where you want to take a taxi to. Parking is also very limited.

The food at Gostoso is a mix of international, Aruba and Portuguese foods. There is a very large menu and Jose patiently answered all of our questions and suggested various items we might like to try. Definitely do also try a pitcher of their delicious white sangria!

cute place, hard to find, very tasty foods with nice presentation. only gripe was quantity of food for the very moderate prices. very small portions of fish in all appetizers. all four of us had the same complaint. due to that probably would not go again. also, watch the bill for included service charge.
