Madame Janette
Ramon Helgers and Karsten Gesing founded Madame Janette April 2nd
1999. Their collaboration resulted into a place, which offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere.

Ramon is responsible for the exotic fruits, herbs and vegetables you will find in not only our dishes, but also in most supermarkets on Aruba. Karsten, a European Master Chef, trained in 'old school' traditions creates, with help from his knowledgeable international
staff, tasteful and creative dishes. Their combined worldwide experience
gives their dishes an original flavour with a touch of Caribbean in it. We call it the Madame Janette Experience! We hope that you will have a wonderful dining romance.

We went here on Oct 28th and requested the outside seating in the patio garden which I highly recommend. There was Live entertainment that evening which was wonderful. My husband had the crab legs for and app. and the grouper and I had the caeser salad with a pasta dish with chicken that the chef prepared special since I do not eat fish or red meat. Everything was OUTSTANDING along with the service. We shared the chocolate souffle with pumpkin spice ice cream.......ohhhhh talk about heaven. This place is a must for anyone that visits this island!!!

We try to visit Madame Janette's every time we're in Aruba. We were not disappointed. Our server, April,
was helpful and attentive but not excessively. We ordered the house Chardonnay and found it entirely satisfactory as well as being a generous serving. Our meal started with the Sushi/Sashimi Sampler with we shared. It was nicely prepared and very good. My wife ordered the Wahoo with Dutch potatoes on the side. It was nicely presented and she declared it Excellent. I ordered the Babi Pangang(Thai Pork) as an entree. It was nicely presented, the seasonings were perfect, and very tender. We had no room for desert afterward so our meal ended there. Definitely worth repeating.

My friend and I went to Madame Janette's on a Friday eve in Oct around 6pm, and we loved it! There was not a large crowd at first but it slowly became more crowded. Nice ambiance, live music, great service. I ordered the filet mignon with spinach and one of the sauces, and my friend ordered the lamb. Both were prepared well, presented well, and very delicious. We ordered a side of the au gratin potatoes and we Loved those - they tasted fresh and homemade. Our waiter was attentive and made great suggestions for every course. He told us to take our time and did not try to rush us out. We had been to Passions restaurant the night before and were pretty disappointed with the meal there, so we were really glad to have a wonderful meal on our last night in Aruba. We would definitely go back again!

Year and year, this restaurant has always been consistent with its food and service - this year was another repeat! Wonderful filet mignons, salads, crabcakes and outstanding service by Jorge! Atmosphere is always lovely, too, under the twinkle lights with music.

Not overly thrilled with Madame Janette's and we had heard a lot of positive things before we went. Food was so so but the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Salad was good but main courses were okay and desserts the same. I really wanted to like this resturant but won't return.

I visited the restaurant the third week of September 2009 with a group of friends. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and was quite disappointed, it was lukewarm in the middle. After several minutes I was able to flag the waiter and he sent it back to the kitchen. About 15 minutes later(as others were well through their meal), he returned with a plate that seemed to be 800 degrees. I ate it, but was disenchanted at that point. I've eaten at MJ's over a dozen times, it seems they may be resting on their laurels, at $37 for the plate, some apology could have come from a manager. It always seems they give you your dinner, then you're on your own until you order dessert.

I've been coming to the restaurant for the last 6 years and think it's the best or one of the best on the island. This time around, I was a little disappointed. I try to order different things so I tried the crab salad which had more lettuce in it than crab and for my main course I had the onion loin which was supposed to come with sauteed onions and a peppercorn sauce. They brought in out with a brown gravy which didn't look like peppercorn sauce nor tasted like peppercorn sauce. My friend had the filet mignon with spinach, mushrooms and a cheese sauce which was very good. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing. But I've been coming to this restaurant for years and I know they do have good food so I won't give up on them!

I have been going to Aruba for over ten years now and Madame Jeanette's is one of the restaurants we always visit every year. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly. The food is presented like a gourmet restaurant and the service is great. The meals are big enough to share (especially if you want to save room for desert). You are seated outside and there is usually local music. My only recommendation...bring bug spray.

Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind as they had a very good guitar player & singer for entertainment. We had 2 rounds of drinks - Margerita's for DW and Vodka Martini's for me. I had the Caesars salad for appetizer (DW doesn't do appetizers) and the Tournedos a la Ramon. DW had the Jumbo Shrimps Coco di Rasta. DW had a Pinot Noir & I had a Cabernet. Our only complaint was that most of the food was too salty, especially the creamed spinach. Also, we got a plate of steamed vegetables as a side dish and thought it odd that I didn't get a choice of potatoes with my meat dish. When I got on the laptop later that night, I noticed that the menu read "All entrees are served French Fries, White Rice, Potato Gratin, Dutch Roast Potatoes". The waiter never asked for my choice. Cost with tip = 140.97

Great dinner last week...as usual. I always get the Shrimp Casserole and it was excellent. My husband got the Butcher Block steak and really enjoyed it. The salads are very large and we shared it. Our waiter Raul was so sweet and took good care of us. We will always return for dinner here when in Aruba.
