Madame Janette
Ramon Helgers and Karsten Gesing founded Madame Janette April 2nd
1999. Their collaboration resulted into a place, which offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere.

Ramon is responsible for the exotic fruits, herbs and vegetables you will find in not only our dishes, but also in most supermarkets on Aruba. Karsten, a European Master Chef, trained in 'old school' traditions creates, with help from his knowledgeable international
staff, tasteful and creative dishes. Their combined worldwide experience
gives their dishes an original flavour with a touch of Caribbean in it. We call it the Madame Janette Experience! We hope that you will have a wonderful dining romance.

Please use my review as a warning before you spend your money and a precious vacation evening dining here. GO ELSEWHERE!!!!! There are countless better options in Aruba that will treat you right. In my 30 years of vacationing around the world, I have never ever dealt with a more uncaring, rude and unprofessional staff. We attended Madame Janettes with friends and heard great things about the food and the restauarant. One problem - the restaurant is mainly outdoors and there is no A/C so if you want to spend $ 300 and sweat to death then you will enjoy this place. We have a special needs son who does not have a diverse diet and we need to bring food for him to eat and 99% of places never mind this and it never causes a concern. Here it caused a major problem with their management. Before we were even served, one of the staff members were rudely sent to my table and scolded us for bringing in "OUTSIDE FOOD" and that we needed to get rid of it immediately. And if we did not comply they would still charge us for a kids meal. When we tried to explain that we had a special needs child and that he would not eat their food - this still caused a problem. I went to the owner and he yells at my wife that we were the 7th person to bring in food and that it was insult. So I have no idea why the other 6 families did not hear his venting and I was the lucky one. So my family did something we have never done in 30 years of vacationing. WE WALKED OUT. They had no care or concern for my sons well being only their ridiculous made up repuatation for being an upscale gourmet carribbean restaurant and us bringing in outside food was tarnishing it in some way. If you have a special needs child or know someone with a special needs child, PLEASE BOYCOTT MADAME JEANETTES as their behavior is incomprehensible.

The live entertainment was great. The food is the best on the island. The lobster raviolis are kick butt. I ordered the curry coconut shrimp, which was excellent. The almond grouper was also great.

Ate at Madame's when it first opened years ago, and recently went back after 5 years. Brought my 2 friends from home and they weren't disappointed. 2 of us had the Grouper, which is their specialty and 2 had the snapper. We are frequent seafood eaters, and this was as good as it gets. The portions were large, the vegetables fresh, the fish cooked perfectly. I believe the grouper was almond crusted and the snapper potato crusted. Both excellent. Service was very attentive. The atmosphere was very nice as we sat outside under the trees. Make reservations, as it is very popular.

Great meal and EXCELLENT service. The restaurant is HUGE and the attention to our table was wonderful. However, the flies are abundant - so much so that we left a cigarette burning with the hope that the smoke would make them leave (it didn't work). If you can handle the flies, I would go. The portions are HUGE and each was tasty.

This was a huge disappointment. After hearing about this restaurant during our previous two trips, we decided to finally give it a try. First of all, there is nothing romantic or intimate about dining with TONS of other people. Also, make sure you don't get sunburn that day because this place is HOT. Be sure to sit outside, not under the roof. The disappointment came mainly with the speed with which the food is delivered. There is clearly a stash of lobster ravioli waiting for people to order it. In addition, of the two, one of our steaks was served woefully rare. Even though one entree was excellent, the meal was kind of ruined when you have to send food back and each person eats alone. For the price, this seems a bit ridiculous. Even though the tagline is only tell your best of friends, I think I may only tell people who want to be ripped off.

Another great night at MJs. No trip to Aruba is complete without at least one dinner here. We were seated promptly in the garden not too far from where the entertainment is. The food and service was excellent as usual. The music added to the ambiance. Our friend was impressed with the quality of MJs. We'll be back again.

We had a fabulous dinner at Madame Janette's. The atmosphere is lovely, the service was attentive and charming and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I had the potato crusted snapper and my husband had the pork tenderloin -both with delicious, rich sauces. The portions are a little overwhelming, but so tasty that we ate until we were full and only ordered a glass of port for dessert. The live music (a singer/guitar player playing mostly folk tunes and oldies) hugely added to the charm of the whole experience. We can see why Madame Janette's has the following it does and would recommend it to all!

I am happy that I did not read the negative review as written below as I might have thought twice about going to this restaurant. The bottom line is that we had a great meal and loved the restaurant and will go back again.

Our family was very disappointed by our experience at Madame Janette's. The service was inattentive, disinterested, and uneven. The crabcakes were about 80% bread and 20% who knows what. I ordered the rack of lamb medium rare. It came to our table in five minutes flat, and it was well done. Do they have racks of lamb just sitting around under heat lamps waiting for people to order them??? A bowl of spaghetti for a child costs $11 a plate, and our waitress said that it would be too small for our children to share (which it was not), so we wound up spending $22 for buttered noodles. When I sent back my entree, they were nice enough to give us a free dessert, but it was terrible. Normally, chocolate soufflet needs to be ordered at the beginning of the meal because it takes a long time to prepare. This one came in five minutes, and it was as if they took a container of Hershey's syrup and microwaved it to make a hot chocolate soup. I am flabbergasted that so many people rated this restaurant so highly, and we will never be back.
