Ruinas del Mar
Aruba Restaurant With Natural Island Ambiance
Ruinas del Mar, "Ruins by the Sea", is Hyatt Regency Aruba’s signature restaurant offering contemporary cuisine in an open-air environment. Guests are invited to enjoy menu items such as fresh seafood and steaks, hearth oven specialties, and a display of multiple food stations offered during breakfast, Sunday brunch, and special events. The design of Ruinas del Mar pays homage several original Aruban architectural elements including caliche stone and the use of water in design.

I have to also express caution with Ruinas Del Mar, particularly with the Red Snapper. I got a violent case of food poisoning after dinner. The setting is obviously very nice but, after all, it's about the food. In case one doubts this account, I am a physician and know what constitutes food poisoning--it couldn't have been anything else that caused it.

Expected a great meal....ordered red snapper that came hard not flaky or edible, seemed like it came out of the freezer after a long stay there...sent it back, waiter said the grouper was fresh, tryed it and not good with a fishy taste. What a beautiful setting, but watch the fish!!!!

This restaurant absolutely deserves a place among Aruba's top 5 restaurants. The first thing you'll notice is the fantastic job put into the decor. The outdoor seating area is nestled between a well-landscaped pool and a stone facade with a rustic look (hence the name, Ruins of the Sea). This makes for a very romantic environment. Make reservations ahead of time so you can sit out here with about a dozen other couples. Indoor seating is also provided.

Service is excellent, and prompt. Probably the best on the island. A very attentive wait staff is eager to help you with everything from wine selection to a coice of entree. The seafood here is also excellent. Try grouper or mahi mahi in the coconut curry; the elegant spices give the fish a wonderful flavor. White beans are served with most entrees, but it's a good idea to get an additional side dish of vegetables.

The dessert menu has a few tempting selections as well as a few coffees.

This restaurant is a must visit on your trip to Aruba.

Entrees $25-37.

For a second time, we have dined here for our anniversary. Although we asked for outside seating by the water, they offered us inside dining 3 times. We chose to wait even if it meant an hour's wait or more. Ironically, our wait was no longer than 5 minutes.

We shared a spinach salad which was really good. We both had filet mignon. Gerry's was cooked as requested, mine was a little overcooked but I didn't send it back. We both have to admit the mashed potatoes were the best we've had anywhere on the island.

We were too full for dessert but somehow gave in to temptation and ordered a chocolate ganache cake to share. Ohhhhhhh, it was heavenly! A must-do for chocoholics. We talked about it the rest of the week.

When our check arrived, we noticed a card that explained the 15% service charge: 12% goes directly to the server and 3% for overhead. Neither of us have ever seen this in print from a restaurant in Aruba.

Oh...we also noticed on our check that coffee, (just plain and basic, not flavored or gourmet) was $4.20 apiece. Ouch!

This is a must go to restaurant while in Aruba. The food, service and setting is excellent. Located in probably the island's best hotel, the Hyatt Regency. This should be visited at least 2 times in a 7 day vacation there.

A great place to eat. Beautiful setting outdoors. Great service and food was wonderful. Our dinner was enjoyed under the stars and a Lunar Eclipse. I would highly recommend to everyone.

If you like to gorge yourself, this brunch is for you. We don't and the $75 check (w 15% gratuity) was steep (it IS the Hyatt). All the typical buffet fare is available, including unlimited mimosas. My recommendation is to skip brunch at the Hyatt (unless you have a huge appetite); its overpriced, save your $ for a nice dinner or lunch.
