This restaurant is in a class by itself. This was by far and away our worst experience on the island. We actually waited 20 minutes once we sat down before any of the wait staff noticed us. For a restaurant of this calibre and price this is unexceptable. We finally walked out and the host could not have cared less. Don't waste your time!

We made reservations from home for our first dinner in Aruba. We always have our first and last dinner in Aruba here. We had garden salads with their excellent creamy, garlic house dressing. Chris actually ordered a second serving of salad; yes, they are that yummy. Next came the chateaubriand (filet mignon for two – carved tableside) served with potatoes and vegetables. They also have great garlic bread on the table that we couldn’t resist. And we had their wonderful chocolate fondue for dessert. It looked so beautiful when it arrived; we took a picture of it. Chris had 3 Balashis and I had one Brown Lady. The total, with 15% service charge added in, was $114 – worth every penny. On our second visit, we had the salads (3) & chateaubriand, a brown lady for me, and 2 strawberry coladas for Chris – too full for dessert. (Sorry, we forgot to note how much the bill was.)

Based on reviews before we visited island, my impression was an intimate restaurant and pricey. Not the case, very good family restaurant, with good portions, a varied menu, great service and excellent desserts. Thought pricing was reasonable.

We have managed to get to Aruba about 10 times over the last 12 years and every visit we try at least one new restaurant and on Apr 3/04 this was it.

First impressions -- the place is huge, noisy, busy and staffed by serving personnel who are constantly running. Menu choices are primarily meat oriented -- Ok with us after a week of great Aruban seafood -- and I chose calamari and cordon bleu, my wife the daily soup and veal chop. Both my appitizer and entre tasted the very same -- nothing special -- my wife's soup was good but the chop was tough and overcooked. With a bottle of medium priced wine, the bill came to $116 - a little steep I think for the meal.

I'm surprised at the sparkling reviews for this place -- there are half a dozen better restaurants within a 5 minute driving distance.

Entering this restaurant makes you feel as if you've just entered any other restaurant featuring a central european menu. Which is not a bad thing, except it's a little stereotypical. The dining area is large, with several areas of seating for large groups. This restaurant is entirely indoors. Go later if you do not want to miss the sunset outside, as window space in the restaurant is limited. It is possible though for a couple to get seated at a bay window for a little more privacy and a (slight) view of Eagle Beach.

The wine list is fairly comprehensive, and more than half are priced below $40.

The wait staff is very cordial, and service is very attentive. The entrees can be a bit of a disappointment, however. Avoid their tomato sauce, as it is runny and rather bland. And because entrees are large, their presentation tends to look a bit sloppy. Stick to their staple lamb, as most have a good experience with it.

Dessert is excellent and almost makes up for potentially disappointing entrees. The creme brule was better than average, and their chocolate desserts are very rich.

A good place for a moderate-priced meal, but don't expect miracles.

We are timeshare owners and it has been our tradition for many years to dine at this fine establishment our first night in. We are always welcomed by Rudy and Benny as long-lost family. All I can say is we've NEVER had a bad meal. Four stars plus!

This is by far my favorite restaurant on the island and I always save it for the last. I had the dinner salad with blue cheese dressing and then the filet madagascar (not sure of the spelling), filet you could cut with a fork, done to perfection. I ordered the chessecake to take home, I normally get their chocolate cake but wanted something different. Bennie as usual was his normal flirtatious self but it was great seeing everyone and having them welcome me home again. The couple sitting next me had ordered the orange duck which looked delicious, I think next time I'm going with the duck.

Benny's greeting "Welcome Home" is really exciting to me!! I probably am one of the few who looks forward to it...'hokey' as it might seem. Our stay in Aruba wouldn't be the same if we didn't visit Chalet Suisse at least once. This recent visit, during early August, consisted of two stops at the restaurant, a favorite of ours. We dined on the Porterhouse Steak; Wiener Schnitzel and the Rack of Lamb. Fabulous, fabulous!! Service was the usual, wonderful, friendly kind. Benny enjoys cajoling with the guest and we were not an exception. We have always recommended Chalet Suisse and will continue to do so! Keep up the good work, Benny!
